Creating a Great Dating Profile
The basic profiles that the dating sites allow you to have don't allow for
much room to really tell people who you are. The thing is, they aren't really
meant to. Profiles are meant to give very limited, basic information, such
as income, weight, height, and age - and if you use them correctly, to attract
prospects. As basic as they are, they determine whether or not people contact
you.
Everyone has something that makes them special. Yes, your Mother told you
this, and you assumed that she said it - well - because she is your mother.
But in fact, everyone really does have something about them that makes them
special. When it comes to your online dating profile, this specialness needs
to shine through.
No matter what you look like, you need a photo. Believe it or not, most of
us think we look worse than we actually do. Furthermore, no matter what you
look like, there are people out there that will think you are drop dead gorgeous
- whether you are large or small, short or tall, or have blonde or mouse
brown hair.
Everyone has different tastes. So, instead of stressing over adding a photo,
just decide that you will be adding one, and if you must, stress over the
one that you will add. In fact, try to add more than one if this is allowed,
showing yourself in different settings.
Lack of confidence will get you a lack of prospects. People are attracted
to people who have self-confidence, without going overboard to having an
ego problem, of course. Make sure that your strenths are listed on your profile.
Don't brag, just let everybody know what you feel that you are good at.
Don't sound like an idiot. Make sure that everything is spelled correctly,
and that you've used proper grammar. Don't use run on sentences, and avoid
repeating sentences or information over and over again. Remember saying 'why
do I need this English class? English is my first language!' Well, now you
know why you needed those English classes!
Write in a conversational tone. If it sounds 'forced' people won't give it
a second glance. Make your writing sound as natural as possible. Never, ever
sound desperate. Don't write about your sad romance history. Keep your profile
positive.
