Online Dating Services, Matchmaking
Sites and Internet Personals
Online dating services, matchmaking sites and Internet personals are taking
the Internet by storm. Not only are they among the most popular and most
visited sites online, but they are also bringing thousands upon thousands
of people together.
The Internet has become a very big part of our lives, and if someone told
you tomorrow that they were taking it away from you, you would probably have
a conniption fit! We shop online, get our news and weather online, pay our
bills online, learn online, bank online, and even socialize with friends
and family online - so why shouldn't we date online as well?
Online dating is very beneficial, and it is actually easier than offline
dating, in terms of meeting people and getting to know them. First, you aren't
limited to the people that are just in your area, and the people that are
just where you happen to be, at the time that you happen to be there. Online
dating is done in your own time frame, even if the person or people that
you communicate with aren't online at the same time of the day that you
are!
Online dating is safe, as long as you follow the rules of the road, such
as not giving out any personally identifiable information. You simply don't
agree to meet anyone in person, until you are ready to. You don't give them
any information that they could use to locate you either. You can keep it
light, and if you find that you never want to meet that person, you don't
have to. If you don't like them, or they aren't all that they led you to
believe that they were, you can end all communication with them at anytime
you want to.
Online dating is affordable. Offline dating can get expensive if you are
the one paying! With online dating, you just pay your monthly membership
fee. You don't have to buy new clothes. You don't have to get your hair and
nails done. You don't have to foot the bill. You just pay your monthly fee.
However, when you meet that special someone online, you will eventually want
to move the relationship offline, where you will worry about your hair, your
clothes, and the cost of the date!
You can get to know people in comfort. You don't have to worry about what
you look like at the moment. You can be in your flannel nightgown, with your
hair in curlers and cold-cream on your face, and still carry on a romantic
relationship - as long as that isn't the picture that you posted on your
profile! There is no pressure to look exactly right while you build your
relationship.
Online dating is possible for everyone - no matter where they are, or how
much free time they have. You also don't have to deal with so many head-games.
The people that sign up for online dating services have proven that they
are looking to make a match. Otherwise, they wouldn't pay the fee to be there!
Furthermore, if an online relationship isn't working out, it can easily be
ended, and it is easier to handle rejection online, than it is offline.
Of course, there are risks in every situation - online or offline. The first
risk of online dating is that people may not be honest about who they are,
what they look like, or what they do. Since most online dating services do
not perform background checks, it is up to you to determine whether a person
is being honest or not.
You also have to work at protecting your own personal information, in order
to protect yourself from stalkers and scammers. No matter how long you have
been communicating with someone online, and even over the course of your
first several in person dates, never give out any information that they can
use to hurt you. Your first name is enough information.
If you've been considering online dating, take some time to educate yourself,
and then start visiting the online dating services and matchmaking sites.
The person you desire may be just a click away.
