Should You Post A Photo On Your
Profile?
In the online dating world, you will see a lot of photos, and you will also
have the opportunity to post your own photograph with your profile, but should
you post a photo? As much as we often don't like doing so, the answer is
yes. When people search through profiles, they typically arrange search results
to only show those with photos, or to show the ones with photos first - and
they seldom look at profiles that don't have a photo.
While looks don't matter in the grand scheme of things, unfortunately in
the dating world - online or offline - first impressions are always made
on how one looks. This is why most people want to see the profiles with photos,
because those photos will determine whether or not they look at the entire
profile.
The online dating services today give you the choice of uploading a photo
- or not. Many people don't want to upload photos - not because they don't
like the way that they look, but because they worry about having their image
on the Internet, for any potential stalker or scam artist to see! This is
a reasonable worry, but again, if you want to succeed at online dating, it
is a risk that you will most likely have to take.
Remember that many online dating site members won't even look at profiles
that don't have pictures. You can go ahead and leave the picture off, to
see what type of results you get, and then share your photo only with those
that you have an interest in, but again, the results will be better if you
post the photo in the first place. If you get satisfactory results without
the photo, great, but if not, you need to take the photo plunge, or give
up on online dating.
When posting a photo, make sure that it is a current picture, that actually
resembles what you look like! If you are one of the beautiful people, you
will get lots of responses, and you will have to determine whether your looks
were a deciding factor for them. If you are not one of those unfortunate
beautiful people, you can be sure that the people that you get close to online
like you because of you - not because of your looks!
Don't just post any old picture. Make sure it is a good, quality photograph,
and hire the services of a professional photographer, if needed. Glamour
shots are great, but those pictures don't really resemble what we look like
on a day to day basis.
If you can post more than one photo, by all means do so! Post a portriat
type picture, for your main profile picture, but then post pictures taken
of you while living your life - such as pictures taken on a camping trip
when you are sweaty and grubby! Don't assume that this will turn people off.
If a person has that same interest, it could be a real turn on! When selecting
your main picture, make sure that it is a picture of just you - not you and
your friends or other people.
Even if you are having a professional picture taken, make sure it portrays
who you really are. If dressing up isn't your thing, and something that you
don't ever do - except to take pictures - then don't dress up for the picture!
Also, avoid pictures that portray sex, or the promise of sex, as this will
only generate communication from people who are just looking for sex - unless
that is also all that you are looking for!
