How to Write an Internet Personal Ad
for Men
After a single or newly single man has made the rounds of the bars and found
that the pool of eligible single women is somewhat limited to say the least,
he will often determine that online dating is a viable alternative and one
that is by far cheaper.
Online dating sites have finally disproved the old adage, "Nice guys finish
last". In the online dating world, nice guys finish FIRST. There are literally
millions of single women out there in the real brick and mortar world that
have come to the sad conclusion that there just aren't very many (if any)
nice guys left in the world. If you really are a nice guy, the world of internet
dating is the very place that you have been searching for all of your life.
Internet dating sites are crowded places....VERY crowded and if you want
to find or be found by the girl of your dreams your personal advertisement
is going to have to stand out from the crowd.
In your headline, please avoid the all too common, 'hello' or 'hi there'.
It's been done...over and over again. The headline that is supposed to shock
has been done too and it has been proven totally ineffective. Such headlines
as 'I'm the guy your daddy would shoot on sight' won't attract women. It
will make them avoid you like the plague. Please avoid, 'I may be the one
you are looking for', too. Maybe you are but maybe you aren't. You don't
know that.
The dating site that you have joined has likely provided you with limited
space in which you may place a personal advertisement as well as a photograph
of yourself. Use this space wisely. It is all you have to attract the kind
of women that you are most interested in meeting.
A personal advertisement should be between 200 and 250 words in length. Less
than 200 looks like you have something to hide and more than 250 looks like
you have too much to say. Remember that the headline has to get attention
or nobody will read the rest of your profile.
Here is a sample profile that has been shortened somewhat:
I found a glass slipper. Is it yours?
I am a 27 year old college graduate with a degree in electrical engineering.
I haven't started up the corporate ladder yet and I don't want to go alone.
I am a very fit sports enthusiast who loves almost all things outdoors. I
especially love hiking in the mountains. I and my dog, Jack, spend most weekends
hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains when we aren't on search and rescue missions.
I really would like to work in foreign countries for a few years and would
like someone to share that adventure with me.
I'm looking for a woman who has a sense of adventure and loves the outdoors.
A woman who loves to travel and who enjoys discovering new things will find
that the glass slipper I found is a perfect fit.
